BLACK BIRDS

Black Birds
Sinister Birds
Pecking
Stealing life
Taking the seeds
From the earth
Before they can grow

Sinister birds
Envy your vision
Your ability to see
More than is before you
Foolishly
They peck out your eyes
Confusing sight with vision
Envious birds
Covet your warmth
Pecking your chest
To open a wound
To get at your heart
So your life will seep out of you
Along with your blood
Miserable birds
Witness the joy
That appears in your smile
They can not stand
To see you smile
Because they can not feel
Or make their countenance bend
Do not let Black Birds
Sinister birds
Envious birds
Miserable birds
Know who you are
Or they will try
To steal it from you
