CLOWN SHOES

I must be wearing clown shoes

Stumbling as I scamper

To keep up with you

I must be sporting flame red Bozo hair

As I endeavor fruitlessly

To get you to take me seriously

I must be wearing clown pants

With their dehumanizing way

Of masking my desire

I must have applied a clown face

That conceals my anguish

At missing connections

I can't help but wonder

If you think I'll squirt you with seltzer

Should you come closer than arms length

I must have on a rubber nose

That causes you to laugh

As I try to bare my emotions

I must be wearing clown shoes

Struggling to get out of my own way

As I try to get closer

Despite my frustration

I step into my clown suit

Just to make you smile

I'd gladly strip off all of it

And stand naked before you

To show you that I care
