"Nobody
tells a Navy man how much to drink!"
He bellowed as he stumbled down the street
Disheveled and fragrant
Men in suits with briefcases
Women, incongruous,
In skirt suits and running shoes
Eyes straight ahead
Speeding past him
Tempted to stare
But afraid to engage
Afraid of this man
Who once was powerful
And worthy of caution
Tempestuous then
But defeated by life
Now reduced to a shell
Who can do them no harm |
